Marine Environmental Group
Supplied by Community Association of Lochs and Sounds
Service Details
Association formed to increase understanding of the marine environment and involve people in its conservation. CAOLAS was established in 2015 by local community members as a way to increase understanding of the marine environment in its locality and involve people in its conservation. The value of our coastal waters for wildlife and recreation as well as fishing is being increasingly recognised - discussion led to more involvement from the community and the realisation that local people can contribute to decisions about the management of their local waters. Working locally, CAOLAS has developed a programme of research, education, talks and activities, drawing upon local and national expertise, that shows people the unique marine life in Loch Sunart and the Sound of Mull and has responded to local marine planning and conservation issues.
